rock your body inside and out

In continuing my super positive attitude from this post I wanted to share with you how you can rock your body inside and out! To me, there are three important factors to a rockin’ body – Food, Exercise, and Self-love! Are there more? I’d love to hear your thoughts! What do you do to rock your body? Comment below :)

Rockin’ with nutritious food:

Variety is key when it comes to food! So, switch it up :) .

Simply steamed kale, steamed broccoli, golden quinoa, almonds and goat cheese…mmm I topped it with some nutritional yeast, turmeric and hot sauce after the photo was taken.

If you want a rockin’ body you’ve got to fuel it with nutritious foods. Whole foods are far superior to packaged foods!

Whole grains are going to keep us fueled longer than refined grains. While I do have a love for brown rice wraps and my new found gluten free buns, they will never replace brown rice, quinoa, millet or oats in my life. Whole grains don’t spike your blood sugar like refined grains do (bread, cereal, white rice, and so on). If you have a sweet tooth use small amounts of wholesome sweeteners like light agave nectar, coconut sugar, raw honey, maple syrup or black strap molasses. You’ll learn to love stevia in coffee, tea and even in baked goods. Sugar has its place…but it’s not for everyday life if you want a rockin’ body.

Eat your fats! Have you ever cut fat out of your diet or reduced it to an absolute minimum? I have…and boy was I ever hungry. Every minute of every day I never ever felt satiated…and it took me every ounce of energy to stay focused. Good quality fats and oils will leave you feeling satisfied and nourished. My top choices are organic butter, coconut oil, unrefined olive oil, safflower oil, flax oil, hemp oil, and walnut oil. I also love the fats from nuts and seeds, nut and seed butters, and avocados. Fat doesn’t cause you to be fat unless you eat too much!

Eat your greens!!! Lightly steam some kale and you can add it to ANY dish you make. You know how I feel about green foods if you read this post. I love filling my plate with the rainbow in vegetables and fruits…how amazing are berries this time of the year???

Random snack plate with lentil humus, chickpea humus, veggies and apple slices.

I think I need to do an entire post on protein sources….if it’s an animal product I always recommend organic and free range. My favourite vegetarian protein sources are quinoa, beans, lentils, tempeh, hemp seeds and hemp protein (for smoothies).

Rockin’ with exercise:

While food plays a huge roll in a rockin’ body, exercise is also super important. Exercise helps me feel stronger and more energized. Find something you like to do and remember to switch it up so that you don’t get bored! We all have times when we are intimidated to try a new class or a new style of yoga – the fear of the unknown! Put on your comfy work-out clothes and exit the comfort workout zone. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, what’s the point? If you dread exercising it’s time to find something you enjoy. Creating a new challenge helps me stay motivated – what helps you stay motivated?

Rockin’ with self-love:

You’ve got to love yourself to rock your body inside and out. Most of us have had body image issues at some point, am I right? If you haven’t PLEASE share your secrets with everyone! I find that I feel better on the inside when I am balanced. I feel balanced when I am eating well, staying active and having fun! When I am happy in my life I feel awesome about my body…when I don’t feel so good about what’s going on in my life I feel ‘ugly, fat, gross’. When I feel that way I know it’s time for a change! Can you pin down when you feel the best and worst about your body? Take some time, step back, recognize where the thoughts are coming from…and share your findings :)

My favourite body image blogs are: Operation Beautiful and Beauty Redefined - both are very inspirational :)

There are times when I feel as though I could spend my entire life with a plate of blueberries, dark chocolate and peanut butter. Those times only last a few moments :) .

What are your rockin’ body secrets? I’d love to hear them!
